In the State of New Hampshire, a certified pool operator is not required. STARTING JANUARY 1, 2022, NEW HAMPSHIRE WILL REQUIRE POOL OPERATORS TO BE CERTIFIED.

While a public pool operator is not required to have a certification as per the NEW HAMPSHIRE CODE OF ADMINISTRATIVE RULES CHAPTER Env-Wq 1100 PUBLIC BATHING PLACES Statutory Authority: RSA 485-A:6, X; RSA 485-A:26 Env-Wq 1102.28 it states “ ‘Operator’ means the individual who has responsibility for the daily operation of a public bathing place and who is trained in the sanitation, safety, and proper maintenance of the public bathing place and all physical and mechanical equipment associated therewith”.

Duties that the trained operator is responsible for include, but is not limited to include disinfectant residual and pH testing every 4 hours unless there is an automated system that requires testing once a day; record all testing results, backwashing, filter cleaning, spa draining, operation problems, fecal and vomitus accidents and the response; be available on-site within 20 minutes; maintain water quality, and be knowledgeable of the circulation and disinfection system.

A public pool operator must follow state, county, city and local laws as well as federal laws pertaining to the operation and maintenance of pools and spas.
