JUNE IS A GREAT TIME FOR POOLS

While the unofficial start of summer is Memorial Day weekend, the actual first day of summer is June 20, 2024. The first day of summer is many things to many people. But for all of us, it is the day of the year with the longest amount of sunlight. This makes the first day of summer a great day to enjoy your pool for the longest length of sun time in a day!

BEGINNING OR ENDING
While summer begins in June, school is ending for the kids in the Northeast region. When school lets out, the kids need something to do during the day and enjoying the pool often tops the list. And if you are the only pool in the neighborhood, your pool could be the summer hangout spot. Even if it isn’t, you want to employ a list of pool rules to
ensure everyone enjoys it safely. Basic pool rules include:

 Designate responsible adult supervision
 No jumping, running, or horseplay
 Establish an area away from the pool for snacks
 No glass bottles, glasses, or items in and around the pool area
 Keep electrical appliances a significant distance from the pool
 Don’t use extension cords
 Where possible, use battery-operated appliances around the pool
 Poor swimmers or non-swimmers should stay in shallow water
 Use your rope and floats to distinguish between the shallow and deep ends
 Encourage showering before using the pool
 No one should use the pool i f they have open wounds
 If you use your pool at night, provide adequate lighting in and around the pool
 Do not use alcohol or drugs

FIRST OR LAST
While the summer solstice is the longest day of the year, it is not necessarily the warmest day of the year. So, it is likely that you are still utilizing your pool heater to heat the pool for comfortable swimming intermittently. If you plan on having a party, you might consider heating your pool warm the day before make sure it is a good temperature for your guests.

30 FOR 30
Severe thunderstorms could be a threat across any area of the nation, especially when the severe weather season ramps up in June and July. When it comes to pop up storms, what is the rule of thumb for using the pool? In the event of an electricalstorm (thunderstorm), immediately close the pool at the first sound of thunder or the first sighting of lightning. The pool may re-open 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder orthe last sighting of lightning. The National Lightning Safety Institute recommends the following: “If you can see it, flee it; if you can hear it, clear it.”

NOTHIN’ BUT A GOOD TIME
When it comes to swimming pools, they are known to be good, clean, summer time fun! Still, you need to take the proper steps to ensure the pool operates soundly and
safely. This includes maintaining safe and proper water chemistry, establishing and enforcing pool rules, and ensuring the pool’s safety features are intact and operational.
