What You Need To Know About Swimming Pool Inspections

Whether you work at a large swimming facility or have a small pool at your home, ensuring the swimmer’s safety is a top priority.  For swimmers to be safe, the swimming pool or spa must be regularly inspected and in working condition. Commercial swimming facilities rely upon pool inspection services to protect them from legal liability while maintaining a safe pool or spa for visitors.  In fact, both types of pools require detailed inspections to make sure they are up to all local codes and safe to swim in. But what exactly do pool inspections consist of?

Safety Features

A swimming pool’s safety features include things like the pool cover, the fence that surrounds the pool, the locks on all gates, and much more. Each community has its own local ordinances on what safety features are essential for your facility and in working order. It is a pool inspector’s responsibility to have knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulations and to make sure your pool or spa meets those requirements.

Physical Condition of the Pool or Spa

Swimming pools are subject to a lot of wear and tear during use, especially at commercial facilities where many people swim. The pool’s physical condition will deteriorate without the proper care and maintenance. During your pool inspection, professional inspectors will look at the pool’s tiles, interior finish, decking, coping, pavers around the pool, and more in order to assess its physical condition.  When the inspector finds issues, they will provide information on how to make the proper repairs to bring the pool up to code.

Plumbing and Electrical

The plumbing and electrical components of a swimming pool are what keep the pool up and running. Swimming pool inspectors will look for issues with the plumbing like signs of leakage, bubbles in return lines, and that there is proper drainage. They will also look for proper labeling of breakers while making sure all electrical components are working and up to code.

Water Quality

Having a sanitary water supply is essential to maintaining a safe swimming pool. Pool inspections will include water quality testing as well as an assessment of the products and procedures used when treating the water supply. The inspector will address any discrepancy between your pool and ideal water sanitation and offer solutions on how to get on track.

Operating Equipment

The operating equipment of a swimming pool or spa’s condition is of the utmost importance during pool inspections. Even if the pool is in great condition, bad operating equipment will quickly bring things into disrepair. The pool inspector will not take your operating equipment apart but they will inspect and test it. They will turn systems off and on, listening for leakage and strange noises. Pumps, heaters, filters, and more will be inspected for their performance and condition.
